Beyond the Basics is designed for individuals who have successfully completed an Associate Level Orton-Gillingham training which includes at least 60 hours of coursework as well as a supervised practicum. This four-day course focuses on syllabication, advanced word attack skills, and morphology. Participants will work with Anglo-Saxon, Latin and Greek morphemes, accent patterns, and their application to reading, writing, spelling, and vocabulary development. In addition, the course content includes strategies for improving reading fluency and comprehension. The presenter will also focus on the application of Orton-Gillingham to small group instruction and on working with older students. Specific readings will be assigned in advance of the course and lesson preparation and additional readings will be completed during the course. This course will satisfy 26 hours of course requirements at the Certified Level of Orton-Gillingham.
