Carroll School
We are pleased to announce the Maureen McGuire Myers Fellows for 2025.
Aileen Anderson, Speech and Language Pathologist
Kimberly Waugh, Tutor
Lucinda Wright, English Language Arts Teacher
Enhancing our expertise in the neuroscience of reading and language-based learning differences
This summer, Aileen, Kimberly, and Lucinda will attend Learning and the Brain Institute in Boston to study The Neuroscience of Reading with experts John D.E. Gabrieli, PhD, and Joanna A. Christodoulou, EdD. This course will deepen their understanding of the neurological foundations of reading and language-based learning differences. They’ll bring back research-based strategies to strengthen their work with students and launch a journal club at Carroll to share findings and spark new ideas across the ELA, Tutoring, and SLP departments.
Ann Bible, Lower School Tutor
Empowering students through art and storytelling
Ann will lead the creation of a Carroll School children’s book inspired by the art of Robert Rauschenberg, whose own struggle with dyslexia mirrors that of many Carroll students. Fifth graders will contribute original writing and artwork, with guidance from art teacher Julie Siftar and support from the Rauschenberg Foundation. This cross-curricular project will give students a chance to become published authors and artists—celebrating creativity, building confidence, and reimagining writing as a joyful experience.
Madi Boyd, Upper School Humanities Educator
Deepening my ability to listen, understand, and respond to student needs
Madi will attend the Stanley King Institute at Pingry in New Jersey, a week-long educator training focused on deep listening and understanding the subtle ways students communicate. The experience will help her build even stronger, more responsive relationships with her students—strengthening their self-advocacy skills and building confidence as learners.
Maley Parilla, Lower School Counselor
Fostering my understanding of emotional regulation
Maley will take a 9-week certification course through the Polyvagal Institute, exploring how the human nervous system—particularly the vagus nerve—responds to stress and perceived threats. She’ll apply this knowledge into her counseling work to support students’ self-regulation and emotional resilience, further reinforcing Carroll’s commitment to creating a safe, connected, and inclusive learning environment.
About the the Maureen McGuire Myers Endowment Fund for Faculty Professional Development
The Maureen McGuire Myers Endowment Fund for Faculty Professional Development supports professional learning at Carroll School. The fund was established by Stewart Myers, parent of Alex Myers ’91 – in recognition of the transformative impact of Carroll School educators. Stewart named the fund and the fellows after his late wife, Maureen McGuire Myers. An active volunteer at Carroll, Maureen served as President of the Parent’s Association while Alex was a student and then as a Trustee for 15 years.
