We are pleased to announce the Maureen McGuire Myers Fellows for 2024.

Kelly Sampar, Lower School Science Educator

Developing a science/history interdisciplinary curriculum that promotes stewardship of the natural environment and social change

Kelly will attend a summer course – “Plants, Plows, and Pedagogy: Exploring Where Your Food Comes From” – with the Wade Institute for Science Education. Throughout the year, Kelly will also take classes, conduct research visits, and volunteer with local organizations focused on turtles and conservation, including Mass Audubon, New England Aquarium, Museum of Science, and Turtle Rescue League of Massachusetts. Kelly is looking forward to doing field work alongside professionals to rescue cold-stunned sea turtles on beaches and assist with sea turtle nesting sites.

Megan Saunders, Middle School Science Educator & Science Department Head

Helping Carroll enhance our ability to be a place where every student feels like they belong

Megan will attend the 33rd annual international conference with the National Association for Multicultural Education. Megan is eager to learn more about multicultural education and incorporating it into STEM.

 

Chris Craig-Comin, Upper School Humanities Educator

Preparing students to become lifelong learners within complex, interconnected communities

Chris will participate in professional development with Project Look Sharp, which is based at Ithaca College. The focus of Chris’ Myers Fellowship will be media literacy on topics such as “integrating media literacy and critical thinking into the curriculum” and “healthy strategies for children and teens in today’s media saturated world.”

Natasha Tofias, Upper School Tutor

Helping students make meaning from text

Natasha will participate in a course at Landmark School’s Summer Institute entitled Reading Comprehension: Helping Readers Make Meaning from Text. Natasha is eager to explore instructional strategies to support students who struggle with reading comprehension. She looks forward to learning more ways to make text accessible for Carroll Upper School students, and ultimately have additional tools to “give each child what they most need.”

About the Maureen McGuire Myers Endowment Fund for Professional Development

The Maureen McGuire Myers Endowment Fund for Faculty Professional Development supports professional development activities of Carroll School faculty. The fund was created by Stewart Myers – parent of Alex Myers ’91 – in recognition of the transformative impact of Carroll School educators. Stewart named the fund and the fellows after his late wife, Maureen McGuire Myers. An active volunteer at Carroll, Maureen served as President of the PA while Alex was a student and then as a Trustee for 15 years.
