Elementary/Middle School Program:
Students entering Grades 3-7 Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Venue: Grades 3-4 in Waltham
Grades 5-7 in Lincoln
Program Overview:
For children with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, the Elementary/Middle School Program combines a structured academic program in the mornings with traditional summer camp experiences every afternoon. All students receive individualized language tutoring daily with tutors trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach. Our teachers, tutors, and counselors come from The Carroll School and a variety of greater Boston area colleges and schools.
Academic Overview:
Our goal is to enhance each student’s abilities and confidence by introducing appropriate techniques and strategies. This special learning environment is developed through a variety of academic activities, including:
• Individual Orton-Gillingham language tutorials
• Small group writing classes
• Small group math classes
• Additional classes - varying according to grade - in Bounders adventure, physical education, summer science, and the arts
Summertime Fun:
The camp program in the afternoon complements the morning academics by offering time for students to play, enjoy outdoor activities, and relax with friends. Carroll’s wooded campus and child-friendly facilities offer a variety of enticing summertime activities, including:
• Bounders adventure program
• Challenge ropes course
• Games and sports
• Arts and crafts
• Water activities
• Field trips
• Swimming at Walden Pond
