The Garside Institute for Teacher Training (GIFTT)
The Garside Institute for Teacher Training at Carroll School was established to provide teachers and tutors with Orton-Gillingham training through coursework and practicum experience. Our mission is to educate professionals and give them the skills to successfully work with students who have language-based learning disabilities.
This training emphasizes courses that have a direct, multisensory, and systematic approach based on principles that have proven effective in teaching students the structure of language.
The Academic Year Orton-Gillingham course provides 90 hours of coursework and 350 hours of supervised practicum, totaling 440 contact hours. The course is nationally accredited by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE).
