In January, Carroll 5th grade students made their masterful presentations of the lifestyles and cultural attributes of five ancient civilizations that they researched in History classes. Our students studied the West African civilizations of Ghana, Mali and Songhai; the Indus River valley civilizations of South Asia; and the Maya, Inca and Aztec civilizations of Central and South America. Students focused on varied topics including the architecture, religion, government, culture, reasons for decline, and the legacy for each civilization. The audience was clearly impressed by our students’ excellent presentation skills, and their display of a strong sense of pride in their learning. Our students’ hard work was also reflected in the high quality of their exhibits, reaffirming Carroll School’s teaching philosophy of project-based learning. Congratulations to all the 5th grade students for a job well done!
