Fourth Grade Teachers Present at NERC 2010 Conference

The fourth grade team put together a presentation for this year's Northeast Regional Conference on Social Studies (NERC) 2010 conference. The workshop focused on Ancient Greek History and it was called, "What's Greece Got to Do With It?" Joan Snell, Bethany Nazzaro, Katherine Herold and Karen Blumstein presented the workshop at the Sturbridge Host hotel on Tuesday March 23rd. The session was a big hit! Participants got to walk on a floor map of Greece, explore Greek culture, create Ionic columns and discuss the similarities and differences between Athenian democracy and the democracy we have today in America. What a great experience for all involved!

Session Description:
What's Greece Got to Do With It?
In order to support students in becoming global citizens, educators must provide them with the means to explore the world through its history and geography. Spend time exploring the importance of Ancient Greece's geography, architecture, democracy, mythology, and culture, through interdisciplinary, multi-sensory lessons and hands-on projects. Discover the impact an ancient civilization has on the present day and teach children how to use the knowledge of history to make an impact on the world around us!
