First Lego League Tournament -- First Place Win!

As part of Carroll's after school activities, two teams of students participated in the First Lego League (FLL), a global program designed to promote excitement about science and technology by utilizing theme-based challenges to engage students in research, problem solving, and engineering.
On the 5th grade team, coach Nate guided the students as they researched their challenge: "How can you save energy when transporting children to Carroll?" The students conducted surveys and evaluated many options. Their team recommended that transporting students by diesel cars was the most energy efficient way to provide this transportation.
On the other team, coach Kim worked with second through fourth grade students as they tackled the question, "How can we improve the efficiency of student transportation on the Carroll School campus?" They had some great ideas for designing underground tunnels to improve student transportation from building to building on our campus. The students also enjoyed learning some basics about computer programming and building objects with legos.
Nate's team, helped by Curtis, Austin's father, and Donna, Alvie's mother, entered the "Quincy Regional Qualifier" tournament and presented their challenge and solution. Congratulations to Nate's FLL team for their First Place Award for Teamwork!
