Pre-Columbian Ancient Civilizations Fair

On Friday, January 8th, 5th Grade Gatehouse students impressed a crowd of visitors, especially their parents, as they hosted The Fourth Annual Carroll Gatehouse Pre-Colombian Ancient Civilizations Fair. The fair capped the students’ four-week study of the Indus River Civilization at Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa, the West African Kingdoms of Mali, Ghana and Songhai, and the Maya, Aztec and Inca civilizations of Central and South America.

Working in small groups, the students studied these civilizations’ architecture, achievements, government, religion, other aspects of their cultures, decline and legacy. The groups recorded their findings and then used the information to write summary paragraphs. To showcase their learning, students completed hands-on projects for display at this event. All of the fourth graders, as well as many parents and honored guests, were impressed as they examined the students’ projects and listened to their presentations. Congratulations to our Gatehouse students and their teachers for their commitment to quality work.
