Learning Through Activity

Physical Education is critical to learning. It develops and improves brain function, motor skills, and social abilities. Physical activity amplifies self-confidence and community spirit.

What do Carroll students do in gym? Students work on spatial awareness, body awareness, flexibility, loco-motor skills, lower and upper body strength, eye-hand coordination skills, eye-foot coordination skills, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, along with strength building and endurance. This is done through a variety of traditional and non-traditional physical education activities.

Our younger children run relay races, play tag games, stretch, and play matt ball. Our older students play badminton, basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, soccer, and build skills in indoor and outdoor rock climbing.

Sportsmanship and fair play are important lessons learned in our physical education program. As one 4th grade student remembers Coach Mamet saying, “…we don’t care about how fast you can run, how far you can throw or how you can kick. We care about how you treat one another.”
