In a Trustees’ Program Committee (4/1/09) meeting focusing on our Lower School Language offerings, the group isolated four essential ingredients that explain the essence of why Carroll’s educational design works. Among the scores of variables, the Program Committee identified the following as the true core: (1) Carroll’s climate, culture, and beliefs about student learning, (2) the extensive and precise way in which teachers are trained, (3) small group sizes, and (4) the school’s ability to match students together who are at similar levels, have common needs, and learn in similar ways. The level of precision we can design into our program makes a stunning difference for our students.
