Carroll's Bounders Program

The Bounders Program is a unique and important part of The Carroll School experience. Bounders provides our students with a variety of safe and fun outdoor, experiential adventure activities. These activities provide both physical and mental challenges in a non-competitive and friendly environment.

Students are encouraged to take risks through a variety of sequenced group initiatives and challenge course activities that require cooperation, communication, trust, and active participation. One activity promoting teamwork is finding balance on the “whale watch”. The “whale watch” is a large, wooden platform that has a wooden fulcrum underneath. Groups of children climb onto the wooden platform and their goal is to find a way to balance the “whale watch”. Some kids say, “This is impossible!” But they learn that with planning, cooperation, and teamwork, it is possible to attain their goal. This activity, like many others in Bounders, reinforces the skills needed to find solutions for challenging situations.
