Summer Speaker Series: Building Better Brains for Reading
Steve Wilkins, Head of The Carroll School, guided parents of Summer@Carroll students on a journey through the complex functions of the brain. Focusing his presentation on how the human brain interprets language, auditory, and visual prompts, parents learned about critical conversion zones in the left, temporal lobe. Steve explained the "reading road map" for the brain and what researchers have discovered studying the differences found in the language processing pathways of children and adults with dyslexia. Research has also brought a greater understanding of the "science of reading" and the way to most effectively teach children with dyslexia: the instructional approach that Carroll teachers apply to their lessons everyday.
