Research in the field of dyslexia is essential to determine best practices for our students who require excellent teaching and effective programs. In a year-end report on three (of the seven) research projects that are being conducted in concert with Carroll students and families, the Carroll faculty heard preliminary findings regarding middle school fluency interventions, early identification techniques, and RAVE-O's effectiveness in combination with Orton-Gillingham. Three outcomes of the professional development session were:
researchers were impressed with how much progress Carroll students make; in fact, one study had to reject some students from the results because they no longer qualified as reading disabled,
today's teachers working with today's children cannot wait for empirical results of research; we study the preliminary findings and design evidence-based interventions, and
the role of research in the life of Carroll School is profound and important.
