A survey of 1000 children at schools similar to Carroll offers keen insights into the talents within this type of learner. Through the Carroll Center for Innovative Education sponsored "Dyslexia Leadership Summit," educators developed a survey of how children with dyslexia see themselves. As far as we can determine, this is the most comprehensive survey of this type ever conducted. One overwhelming observation of the data is that children in our schools feel quite good about themselves in general. We asked: "What are you better at than most kids?" The data are consistent with what we know about Carroll Alumni/ae occupations as entrepreneurs and in human services. The top responses were:
Friendship Skills 79%
People Skills 68%
Sports 66%
Problem Solving 61%
Curiosity 61%
