Extraordinary Learners

If Carroll teachers provide extraordinary learning environments, their children will be extraordinary learners. This may seems an obvious statement, but it is more true at schools like Carroll than in typical schools. Mediocre teaching works fine for children who are prewired to learn in traditional ways. Atul Gawande, in his book "Better," describes the necessary conditions for organizations and individuals to succeed where others fail. He asks, "What does is take to succeed in places where failure is so easy, so effortless?" His answer is that we need diligence, moral integrity, and ingenuity. At Carroll, that requires an extraordinary set of commitments by the teachers. Student success is directly correlated to what teachers know and what teacher can do with their students.

Over the next month, this website will feature seven examples of these commitments on the part of the Carroll School faculty.... commitments that will create extraordinary learners.
