Friday,
01/06/12 – PA Speaker Series: Sarah Entine, Read
Me Differently
Friday, September 16, 2011 at 8:45 am (following
the PA meeting)
Location: Spaulding Auditorium, Lincoln
On Friday, September 16th at 8:30, please join us in the Spaulding
Auditorium on the Lincoln Campus, for the first Parents' Association Speakers'
Series presentation. The presenter is Sarah Entine, a filmmaker from
California. Sarah's film, Read Me Differently, explores how undiagnosed
dyslexia and ADHD have impacted three generations in her family. Here is an a
statement she made about her film: "My main goal is to bring awareness
to the multi-generational aspect of misunderstood learning disabilities. It's
my hope that the film will spark a dialogue for other families going through
similar circumstances. Oftentimes, the focus is on helping children
"overcome" a learning difference. I want to shift the attention to
interpersonal relationships, because my family's story transcends the simpler
fact of one child's learning disability. Read Me Differently is a universal
story about missed connections and the desire to be seen and accepted for who
we are. Ideally, the film will also be utilized by educators and mental health
professionals to enhance their knowledge of the ways in which learning
disabilities can impact the entire family system."
Sarah's film is scheduled to be shown on WGBH, Channel 2 on Monday
night, September 19th but we will have the special opportunity to speak with
her in person on September 16th at Carroll.
