Cognitive Development: What It Is, Why It Is Important and How It Informs Instruction
Friday, October 2, 2009 at 8:45 am
Location: The Cole Room, Storrow House
Speakers: Steve Wilkins, Head of School and
Katie Lyslo, Cognitive Development Specialist

Carroll has always focused on remediation of language-based difficulties. When the school started in 1967, essentially all we had was evidence that Orton-Gillingham worked, so we provided the best O-G possible. As understanding of brain function grew, additional remedial language and math programs emerged and Carroll responded to incorporate the most effective programs. Today, once again, Carroll is on the cutting edge of integrating educational practice and cognitive science. We now understand that we can strengthen fundamental cognitive abilities in children to provide a more solid foundation for learning and success at Carroll and beyond. This workshop will introduce parents to some of the cognitive activities that we are weaving into the Carroll program.

Carroll Parents: Please join us for a Parents' Association Meeting at 8:30 am.
