ADMISSION PROCESS
The Admission process at The Carroll School is designed to be a thoughtful exchange of information in order to determine whether a child will benefit from the program that the school provides. Specifically, we want to determine whether the child will be able to acquire skills and strategies in the realm of language-based learning disabilities.
The school encourages you to be inquisitive about its mission and teaching philosophies and to contact us should questions arise during the application process. The application process at Carroll is a rolling admission process. As applications are complete, the admission committee reviews each file and determines if the Carroll program is an appropriate fit for the child’s learning needs. If there is a match, the child is invited to campus for a morning visit. Campus visits generally begin in January and run through the spring.
Admission to Carroll is a two-step process. Members of the Admission Committee review each completed file. A determination is made as to whether the child's profile fits the Carroll program. Those students who fit the profile of the school will be asked to visit the campus for a morning to meet with Admission personnel, visit classes and work with the language department head. The applicant's learning style is observed to determine whether there is space available within a group of children who share similar strengths, weaknesses, skill levels, and cognitive ability. The Carroll School, Grades 1-8, admits students selectively based on diagnostic testing, personal interviews, and additional information pertaining to a child's academic history. The school accepts students of average to above-average intelligence whose academic difficulties are primarily due to certain diagnosed language-learning disabilities and/or dyslexia. Our programs are not designed to meet the needs of children with primary emotional or behavioral difficulties.
