TECHNOLOGY - ACCEPTABLE USE COMPUTER POLICY

Internet access is available for students at The Carroll School as a service to promote educational opportunities. The use of the Internet must be in support of education and research consistent with the educational objectives and goals of Carroll.

The use of the Internet is a privilege which includes observing appropriate behavior and laws governing use. If a student abuses the privilege of computer use or the Internet, access will be terminated, disciplinary consequences invoked, and the student will be charged for damage to equipment and software. Students are using the school's resources and every communication will be identifiable from Carroll.

To use a Carroll computer or any Carroll computer equipment or service, you must agree to these guidelines:

Follow Federal, State, and Local Laws

  • Copyright violations: plagiarism and software piracy are illegal
  • Libel: publicly defaming people is illegal
  • Hacking: breaking and entering computer systems is illegal

Use Appropriate Language and Behavior

  • Respect others and their resources
  • No spamming
  • No offensive language
  • No harassment of others by abuse, hate or discriminatory mail
  • Offensive or sexually explicit material should not be displayed or collected using our computers

Protect the School’s Equipment

  • Students may not bring outside programs to use on the computers
  • Students may not download files to the hard drive of the computers
  • No vandalism
  • Carroll hardware and software may not be damaged, abused, or modified in any way

Protect Student Safety

  • Students should not give out their home address, phone number, birthday, or credit card information
  • Carroll reserves the right to examine any information stored on any computer.
  • Student use of the Internet will be terminated if access is attempted in order to gain unauthorized resources.
