MIDDLE SCHOOL VISUAL ARTS
In Middle School students continue to meet developmental needs. Through projects, such as perspective or the mapping of facial proportions, students learn techniques for visual organization. They add many skills to their "bag of tricks" to help them gain control of their expression. They explore how art can convey an emotion or message. Sometimes this work centers on the human figure or face. Over time students' projects continue to combine a deeper understanding of tools and materials and personal expression. At all levels student gain experience working with clay. In the Middle School students work on the potters' wheel. Often projects connect art concepts to language, math, and social studies. Projects are designed to offer enough structure for students to feel creatively "safe" as well as freedom for them to make their own discoveries. There are countless ways to succeed. For each main project students practice making self evaluations. An All School Art Show shares artwork at year's end. |
