THE CARROLL SCHOOL LIBRARY
The Carroll School library supports the core curriculum, provides choices for independent reading, and offers students and faculty an atmosphere conducive to learning. Its mission is to provide students with the skills and resources to become independent, critical readers, thinkers and information users. The library contains over 20,000 items and is accessed via InfoCentre, a web-based computer catalogue. The general collection reflects the curriculum and consists of current fiction, nonfiction, periodicals, and reference materials for grades 1-8. The professional collection contains books and periodicals on current educational issues and research findings in neuroscience and language-learning disabilities. The phonetic collection has a rich selection of readers and workbooks that support our tutors and students in their language focused work. Lower School students come to the library on a scheduled basis, and often outside of their scheduled visits, while Middle School students visit on an as-needed basis. The librarian welcomes any opportunity to assist learners and to develop their information-literacy skills. Library hours are from 8 to 3:15, Monday-Friday.
The Goals of The Carroll School Library Program are to: - encourage students to develop an appreciation of reading, intellectual exploration, and active, lifelong learning;
- provide resources for a variety of learning styles;
- represent a diverse range of experiences and perspectives;
- support faculty and students in their information needs.
