COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY
We are committed to building a community where the wonder and breadth of our similarities and differences enriches our lives. We strive to celebrate each student’s unique identity and contribution. We help our students develop the self-awareness, empathy and confidence to connect meaningfully with people of different backgrounds and experiences. We teach our students to listen, learn and reflect, so that they will be able to respond more knowledgeably and thoughtfully to new ideas and different perspectives. We want our students to gain the self-awareness and self-confidence to stand up for their convictions in the face of opposition, and to recognize and confront injustice wherever they encounter it. We want them to be effective citizens in an increasingly interdependent world. Goals: - Build an inclusive community deeply committed to mutual trust and respect;
- Build and maintain a more diverse community of students, faculty, staff, parents and Board Members;
Build and maintain a program in which every member of the community feels a sense of belonging, of being heard, and of being understood and valued; - Review and revise as necessary the program, curriculum, materials, and teaching practices, so that community members recognize and honor differences in learning profiles, abilities, gender, class, race, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, family structure, religion, and age, among others, and acknowledge similarities of experiences and interests.
