Instructional Technology Specialist

 

School Overview:

Carroll School is a dynamic independent day school for elementary and middle school students who have been diagnosed with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia.

 

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Technology, the Instructional Technology Specialist provides instruction, training, and resources in order to facilitate the use of technology in the classroom that will increase teacher use and proficiency level. This Specialist provides input in the development of system-wide and building level programs that enables students to use technology as a learning tool. Also this position investigates and disseminates information on best practices for technology integration, sources of information on trends, research and applications related to technology use in the school program.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of technology professional development including workshops and courses to teachers for both administrative and educational purposes.
  • Collaborates with teachers and other IT staff to develop curriculum materials and specific lesson plans that integrate technology.
  • Ensures Technology Literacy Standards are integrated into the curriculum and ensures support for the teacher for a successful transition. 
  • Gathers information documenting the effectiveness of the program, interprets this information, and provides constructive input in evaluation of the program.
  • Provides resource information relating to new techniques and practices that relate to the use of technology and that enable students to use technology as a learning tool.
  • Communicates with school personnel to share information about the technology program and models the use of technology in the classroom environment.
  • Assesses the needs and plans for new technology of assigned schools and communicates these to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in assessing technology competencies in both teaching staff and students.
  • Reviews and evaluates new commercial software and communicates such evaluation to the Director of Technology making recommendations for purchase.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technology in education and instructional practices that relate to the use of technology.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technology.

 

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University
  • Experience with technology curriculum and instruction
  • One to three years computer lab or equivalent experience
  • Three to five years classroom technology integration
  • Knowledge of effective design and presentation strategies for staff development
  • Experience using technology to improve teaching and learning
  • Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent knowledge of computer applications ability to develop and deliver technology instruction
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software
  • Ability to teach adult learners
  • Ability to work well with staff and students
  • Ability to work independently and/or within a team
